Beyond Imagination!

Have you ever had that experience where you have an idea and then through seeming miracles it just keeps on getting better? It literally goes beyond your imagination?

A few months ago I was starting to research an idea I had about creating a coaching on horseback retreat in the Canadian Rockies. I had literally got as far as looking at venues and then one day I was having coffee on the beach and an old friend walked by. She had left Spain 7 years ago to run the Equestrian Centre on the Caribbean island of Mustique. I didn’t even know she was in town but as soon as I saw her my mind made a huge leap and my idea had just got better!

“I have to talk to you” I told her and the next day we met up for a coffee on the beach (all good ideas germinate on the beach over coffee!) and I told her of my idea. A special unique coaching on horseback retreat on Mustique. However it didn’t stop there. She then told me that she had trained as an Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Specialist and we could add that in too. So not only coaching but also having the horses as our coaching partners! Literally combining the magic of coaching with the beauty of horses.

I wanted to tell you this story for a few reasons. One is that I often see in my work that we get tunnel visioned as to how something will work out. We have an idea about something and get stuck on that idea when in fact something even better, bigger and so much more amazing is just waiting for us to see it. Just like seeing Liz on the street started to put two and two together in my mind. So remember this – just because you have what you think is a great idea doesn’t mean it can’t be bettered – keep your eyes open!

The second reason is that we can easily get stuck on the ‘how’ of something. It can be our tendency that as soon as we have an idea we have to immediately go to next stage of working our how we are going to do it. Stay with the ‘what’ for a while longer, get clear on the ‘what’ and the ‘how’s’ will have a tendency to show up. When Liz and I were talking about the Healing with Horses retreat  all we did at first was build the picture. And we built it so well that the Mustique company – who usually never promote third party events – wanted to add it to their activities roundup. There is simply no way we could have imagined that ‘how’! So don’t get too stuck on how you are going to achieve something – focus on the ‘what’ and let it evolve.
