Let’s feel good this year!

I love the New Year, there is something great about a shift of energy, a looking forward, a finishing off of the old and creating space for the new.

I gave up New Year’s resolutions years ago. I realised that most came in the realm of the ‘shoulds’ or ‘ought tos’. “I should exercise more”, “I ought to eat more healthily”, “I should cut down on alcohol”, “I should lose weight” – should should should. And of course ‘shoulds’ and ‘ought tos’ are doomed to failure as sooner or later our inner rebel will kick in and stamp its feet and shout “shan’t!”.

However, as I said, I still do love that shift of energy that happens around New Year and so I do use this time to create. I use this time to create in my mind and feelings what I’d like the coming year to hold for me.

No ‘shoulds’, no ‘ought tos’ just a great feeling.

And I’d like to invite you to do the same because it is only when we can imagine something that it can come into reality. As Albert Einstein so wisely said:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, & all there ever will be to know & understand.”

So I invite you to delve into your imagination and create 2016 for yourself.

To get you in the mood, take a look back at 2015 and in your journal write down every single thing, both big and small, that was good about last year. One way to jog your memory is to look at your agenda and look at every week and see what memories it brings up. There was so much good stuff that happens on an everyday basis that gets too easily forgotten. So take this time and review your year for all the good stuff.

What Beatrice and I did this year was to go for a lovely walk to a restaurant we know up on the hill. We sat looking out over the lovely view of lake Zurich and the mountains beyond and treated ourselves to a nice cool glass of white wine (well wine for me coffee for her as that’s her favourite tipple!) and we started to write our lists. As we wrote we reminded each other of things that had happened and so each of our lists grew even more. If you haven’t got a partner do it with a friend who knows you well and who can remind you of all the fun stuff that happened.

Keep on writing until you have exhausted all that you can think of and then read it through and really feel how amazing all those things were. What blessings came your way last year, really feel them.

Let go of the things you do not want to continue or repeat

The next part is a short bit, nothing to dwell on too much but good to do. As you looked through the past year you will probably have had other memories arise of things that you do not want to continue with or repeat. So jot those down on a separate piece of paper under the heading of Things To Let Go Of. If you can’t think of anything that’s fine but if you have written some things down take that paper and as you consciously let them go in your mind and heart burn that paper and watch the fire release the energy held in them to the Universe.

Now we are set for creating 2016.

Once again read through all the great things that happened in 2015 – really identify that overall feeling that it gives you as you read them through. Is that the feeling you’d like to have this year? Or maybe you can even better it. If it is more than one feeling that’s fine too. The key is to define what feeling you want 2016 to have for you. Write that feeling at the top of the page in your journal.

Then start to write down all the things you’d like to do, be or have in 2016. You do not have to know how you are going to experience all these things – you just have to imagine them in your life. They can be big things or small things – whatever comes to mind. Again share these with your partner or friend and inspire each other to even bigger ideas. And each time you read them through check and make sure that they bring up those core feelings that you want 2016 to hold for you.

Our feelings are indicators of the creative part of ourselves. We have to be able to feel it first and then it can be created. By focusing on the feeling that we want 2016 to have we are far more likely to notice the opportunities when they arise.

My core desired feelings are Joy, Abundance, Expansion and Connection, these are the feelings I wish to experience at all times. And this year’s feeling to add to that is Love. I saw this photo on FB, I wish I could attribute it to someone but it was anonymous but I wanted to share it anyway. For me I want everything I do to come from love.

I wish for you a wonderful 2016 and I whole heartedly encourage you to take this time out to create what you want in 2016 and then do whatever comes that brings that feeling into your world. After all, everything we do is to feel something, so let’s make it a great feeling year!

Happy feeling 2016!
