"We worked on areas I would never have considered relevant by discovering what my values are, uncovering my passions and harvesting my skills."
I worked as a Commercial Manager in the graphic and printing industry for 20+ years, following my redundancy I decided now was the time to change my career to an area I was truly passionate about. I had always known I was in the wrong job.
I am someone who is people focused. It was key for me, as a manager, to support and help my staff. I always made excuses for not changing or moving forward but the truth was that I never had the belief or the courage to change my career but somehow I knew this was my time to do it.
Don’t let anyone tell you it is easy. However motivated and focused you may be, there are continual ups and downs. Knowing how to do it and keeping on track is difficult. So I made the vital decision to find someone to be my number one supporter. I wanted someone who would keep me focused and on track, who was outside my circle of family and friends and would offer me an objective, positive and motivational opinion when I needed it most. I am someone who doesn’t naturally ask for help but I knew this was the first step I needed to make. I contacted Jessica and everything started to change.
We worked on areas I would never have considered relevant by discovering what my values are, uncovering my passions and harvesting my skills. This process was informative, interesting and enlightening. It helped me to uncover a new direction and recognise the one, that deep down, I had always truly wanted.
Now all I had to do was get there! I had always wanted to volunteer but had never found the time. I decided it was an opportunity to help those at disadvantage. This would enable me to gain the knowledge and skills I needed to gain employment in a new area where I had no previous experience. There were many moments of doubt and questioning but whenever this happened I would talk with Jessica and this kept me going in the right direction.
So where am I now? Well I’m working in an area I love with one of the charities I supported. I’m going back to college to gain new skills and I’m having so many new experiences I can’t believe how my life has changed over the last year.
Jessica told me that opportunities will happen even in these difficult times, I just needed to remain focused. So I did and she was right. I can honestly say this is the best thing I have ever done. I know from this point on there is no going back but I could not have got there without Jessica’s continual support and guidance.A.B. Commercial Manager, UK
